those mysterious undetected data breaches

Wired continues reporting on the Albert “I hacked Hannaford/TJX/more” Gonzales saga. Lines like this are what piss me off:

By identifying intrusions that “had not yet been detected,” his lawyer wrote, Gonzalez helped the companies institute protective measures to secure their data and prevent future breaches.

If true, I’m waiting patiently for those companies to disclose their breaches. And a big thumbs up to those firms living in ignorance.

Also, I would hope that someday even more information on how these recent huge breaches occurred. It really ties our hands to hear that a huge breach occurred, but details that would be helpful to everyone else to not repeat the same mistakes, are pushed under the rug and sealed.
